Controlled Burn

March 1st & 2nd

Lubbock Reese Redevelopment Authority dba Reese Technology Center will perform a scheduled controlled burn on March 1st and 2nd, 2018.  This is necessary to reduce invasive vegetation, remove the risk of an unintended wildfire, and enhance the overall health of the area environment.

The Texas A&M Forest Service, in conjunction with the City of Lubbock Fire Department, will perform the controlled burn of the former Reese AFB Housing Area located east of the Reese Technology Center entrance at 4th Street and Research Boulevard (see map).  This includes approximately 100 acres in the former housing area as well as the recreation fields to the North.

In order to minimize risk to residents and property, the timing of these burns is subject to weather conditions.  Established guidelines regarding wind velocities and direction, air temperature, and humidity levels will be followed.  In addition, consideration will be given to weather conditions that result in the least amount of smoke impact on surrounding areas.
